Eyelid Ptosis - Ptosis
This condition occurs when the upper eyelid is lower than its normal position. It can be unilateral or bilateral, congenital, or acquired. In the treatment of ptosis, correctly identifying the cause is the most crucial step for successful treatment. The most common cause of ptosis involves impairment of the levator and Müller muscles that lift the eyelid, though it can also arise from various systemic and eye diseases, or as a result of trauma. The clinical presentation can vary from a mild cosmetic defect to significant obstruction of vision. In cases of congenital eyelid droop, the patient should be thoroughly examined early for potential amblyopia risk. Except in rare cases, the treatment for eyelid droop is surgical. Surgery can be performed under local or general anesthesia, depending on the patient's age and clinical condition.
