Ağız ve burun arasındaki hava kanalının darlığı, obezite, bademcik ve geniz eti hipertrofisi, sigara ve alkol kullanımı, horlama ve uyku apnesinin başlıca nedenleridir.

KBB alanına giren uyku bozukluklarıdır.
Apne İndeksine göre (10 saniyeden fazla toplam solunum durması) değerlendirme şu şekildedir:
- 5-20 arası hafif apne,
- 20-40 orta derecede apne,
- 40'ın üstü şiddetli uyku apnesi olarak değerlendirilir.
10 saniyeden fazla hava akımının %30-50 azalması, solunum hareketlerinin azalması, kandaki oksijen miktarının azalması veya bu nedenlerle uyanma durumuna hipopne denir.
Anpne-Hipopne İndeksi'ne (AHI) göre;
- 5-30 hafif,
- 30-50 orta,
- 50'nin üstü ciddi uyku apnesi olarak kabul edilir.
Patients may suffer from headaches, fatigue, sleepiness in daytime, psychological disorders, sexual function disorders due to hormonal changes related to sleep disorders.
The diagnosis of the disease may be enabled by various methods such as detailed ENT examination, a sleep apnoea test called polysomnography (psg), radiological imaging and sleep endoscopy.
In the treatment of sleep apnoea, primarily, losing weight, changes in sleeping positions, decrease in usage of cigarette and alcohol may be beneficial for the patient. A positive air pressure treatment called CPAP may be utilised in the cases where patients have severe sleep apnoea.
If these kinds of treatments are not enough;
- The surgeries that target nasal congestion,
- The surgeries that target soft palate,
- The surgeries that target tongue base,
- Stimulation of tongue muscles nerve
- Submaksilla ve maksilla kemik hareketi ameliyatları
- Boyundan açılan hava yolu (trakeotomi) ameliyatları horlama ve uyku apnesi tedavisi için yapılabilir.
