Revision Cosmetic Valve Surgeries
Cosmetic eyelid surgery, namely blepharoplasty, is one of the most frequently performed facial rejuvenation surgeries. Since the eyelids have a very important role in facial expression, a negative surgical result also changes the person's expression. It is very important to evaluate patients correctly at the preoperative stage in order to reduce the risk of revision surgery that will be needed later. Patients need to have a detailed eye and eye area examination by an oculoplastic surgeon, determine the presence of an existing refractive error, evaluate the functions of the eye and eyelid muscles, visual field examinations when necessary, and evaluate additional accompanying pathologies. It is necessary to understand the patient's expectations, explain how this surgery will meet the person's expectations, and give information about the necessity of combined surgeries. As a result of all these evaluations, it is necessary to decide on the right technique for the right patient. Revision surgeries are always more complicated than primary surgeries. Because the surgeon has to work in a more adherent and fibrotic area due to the previous surgery. Over- or under-correction, asymmetries, developing anatomical and functional disorders in primary surgery may lead to the need for revision surgery.
The most common situations requiring revision surgery:
Inability to close the lids due to excess skin removal and drying of the eye surface and corneal problems resulting from this situation
Lid fold asymmetries
Inadequate corrections and related deformities caused by not applying the correct technique
Sagging or turning outwards due to excess skin removal from the lower lid
Deformities on the outer parts of the lid
Visible scars
In cases where combined surgery is required but additional problems are not corrected in primary surgery (accompanied ptosis (drooping eyelids), drooping eyebrows, scleral show (excessive appearance of the white of the eye), negative canthal tilt (the angle at the outer corners of the eye being too downwardly angled), these problems can also be eliminated. Additional surgical corrections are required.
